What are the opening times of border crossings?

Border crossings are mostly open from 8 AM to 7 PM.

Shared taxis are a common mode of transportation in Afghanistan and can be found almost anywhere.

Do officials (customs, police, military) expect bribes?

It depends; sometimes officials expect bribes, and sometimes they don’t, depending on the person and the situation.

How long can I stay with different visa options?

Is it possible to buy diesel or benzene at ordinary gas stations?

Yes, you can buy diesel or benzene at any gas station and pay in Afghanis or USD. Credit card payments are not available.

Is car insurance compulsory?

Are there customs fees when traveling with a car?

There are no customs fees, but you need to obtain a Road Pass before entering Afghanistan.

Is it possible to pay directly with Western credit cards?

No, it is not possible to pay directly with credit cards.

What should I say if asked about my religion at border crossings or airports by the Taliban?

Normally, no one asks about your religion. If asked, you can state your religion.

What permits are required for cars?

Are drones allowed?

Drones are not allowed. If necessary, permission can be obtained.

Can women drive cars (also as solo female travelers)?

There are no restrictions on female drivers. While it is rare to see local women driving, foreign females drive without issues.

How much cash can one carry over the border without declaring, and what advice is there for those wanting to bring in more?
